2. Lyceum University of the Philippines


It was founded in 1952 by José P. Laurel, who became the third president of the Philippines, making LPU the only school founded by a Philippine president. He named the institution after lykeion, the grove in ancient Athens where Aristotle taught his pupils. Its educational vision is founded on principles that its founder, José P. Laurel, set down. It opened its gates to its first students on July 7, 1952. Formerly Mindanao Institute of Technology (MIT), is a university in the Southern Philippines. 6. University of the Philippines – Diliman


The University of the Philippines Diliman (also referred to as UPD, UP Diliman, or simply UP) is a coeducational, research state university located in Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. It was established on February 12, 1949, as the flagship campus and seat of administration of the University of the Philippines System, the national university of the Philippines. UP Diliman is the fourth oldest constituent university of UP. It has consistently ranked first in government-backed polls on the most significant higher education school in the entire Philippines. 7. Our Lady of Fatima University


Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) is a private university in the Philippines widely known for its paramedical courses. It was established in 1967 by Jose C. Olivares and his son-in-law, Dr. Vicente M. Santos. From the former Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, the founders transformed it into a training ground for healthcare providers paving way for the rise of Our Lady of Fatima College of Nursing. De La Salle College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) or simply, Benilde, began as a night school for working professionals in 1988, DLS-CSB now continues to blaze a trail by offering innovative programs with a thrust on learner-centered education. 9. Polytechnic University of the Philippines


More popularly known as PUP, this co-ed state university was founded on 19 October 1904, as the Manila Business School (MBS) and as part of Manila's public school system. It was eventually promoted to a chartered state university in 1978, under Presidential Decree 1341. This was also when the school’s current name was properly established. It currently has over 20 campuses across Luzon and in Visayas as well.

The University of Rizal System (URS) is a product of two merged state colleges and a university extension. It was formed with the approval of Republic Act 9157 on August 11, 2001.
