The 2023 Quacquarelli Asia University Rankings have recently been revealed. And compared to the 15 Filipino college schools that were able to rank last year, 16 have made it this time. University of the Philippines (rank: #87, score: 47)

Taking the lead once again is the University of the Philippines. Considered the national university, UP has been one of the top-tier college schools in the country since its inception in 1908. It currently offers hundreds of courses related to different fields and has 17 campuses nationwide. UP is also one of the “Big Four” universities in the country.

Ateneo De Manila University (rank: 134, score: 34.7)

The second-highest Filipino college school in the 2023 QS Asia list is no other than Atene De Manila University. With a history dating as far back as 1859, Ateneo De Manila has become one of the leading and most competitive private schools in the Philippines. It is also the alma mater of some of the most notable Filipinos in our history, such as Dr. Jose Rizal, the late former presidents Corazon Aquino and her son Benigno Aquino III, Antonio Luna, former senator Mar Roxas II, Cardinal Luis Tagle, and Miss Lea Salonga.

University of Santo Tomas (rank: 175, score: 29)

Silliman University (rank: 551 – 600)

Also included in the list is the first protestant school established in the Philippines, Silliman University. Situated in Dumaguete City, this private educational institution was built in 1901 as an elementary school by Dr. Horace Silliman along with missionaries of the Presbyterian Church from the United States of America, thus making it the first and oldest American-established university in Asia. Adamson University (rank: 701 – 750)

Making another appearance in the QS Asia Rankings for 2023 is Adamson University. Before being recognized as a university in 1941, this educational institution – founded by Greek chemist George Lucas Adamson – first started as the Adamson School of Industrial Chemistry in 1932. At present, AdU has about 10 colleges nationwide and offers around 54 courses. Some of its notable alumni include Peng Nepomucemo, Hector Calma, and Carmen Lamagna.

Cebu Technological University (rank: 701-750)

Included in the latest QS Asia Ranking List is Cebu Technological University, also known as Cebu Tech or just CTU for short. CTU’s long history can be traced back to 1911, but it only achieved its state university status in 2009 with the help of Republic Act No. 9744. Cebu Tech currently has over 24 campuses (including its extensions) and courses in different fields, such as technology, agriculture, and engineering.

Central Luzon State University (rank: 701 – 750)

This educational institution in Nueva Ecija is one of the most acclaimed college schools in the Philippines and the rest of Southeast Asia due to the research studies it published in the field of aquatic culture. CLSU started in 1907 as the Central Luzon Agriculture (CLAS) before becoming Central Luzon Agricultural College (CLAC) in 1950 and ultimately, Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in 1964. It offers 70 programs (bachelor's, master's, and doctorate) in various fields and serves as the headquarters of three government agencies.

Central Mindanao University (rank: 701 – 750)

The 15^th Filipino college school to enter the latest QS Asia Rankings is Central Mindanao University. This Bukidnon-based university started as the Mailag Industrial School in 1910, making it one of the first universities in that part of the country. And since then, CMU has garnered many recognitions for its academic programs from various groups, such as the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). Nowadays, CMU offers 72 programs (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate) and has 10 colleges set in different locations.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (rank: 701 – 750)

Last but most definitely not the least is Lyceum of the Philippines University. Founded in 1954 by the third president of the country Dr. Jose P. Laurel, this internationally acclaimed co-educational university has established itself as one of the leading providers of academic excellence in the country. It has bagged several awards and accreditations, like the Philippine Quality Award for Commitment to Quality Management and the Level 4 PACUCOA-Reaccredited Status for its HRM program.
