About the Provider

University of San Carlos (USC) is a private educational and research institution in Cebu City. Its history starts in 1595 with the establishment of the Colegio de San Idelfonso in Cebu City. This colegio operated until 1769 and was opened again in 1783 as the Colegio-Semiario de San Carlos. In 1930, the colegio and the seminario became independent from each other, after which, in 1948 the Colegio de San Carlos became a university. At present, USC has 5 campuses in Metro Cebu—Downtown Campus (formerly Main Campus), North Campus (formerly Boys' High School), South Campus (formerly Teacher Education Center and Girls’ High School ), Talamban Campus, and Montessori Academy.

The university currently caters to 57 undergraduate and 64 graduate programs under seven college units, namely Architecture, Fine Arts and Design, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Healthcare Professions, and Law and Governance. The USC Basic Education Department also implements the Senior High School (SHS) program, which has available strands from the Academic, Arts and Design, Sports, and Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) tracks.

USC is considered to be one of the biggest universities in Cebu and the Visayas. The five campuses cover a total of about 88 hectares, of which 78 is occupied just by the Talamban Campus. There is about 22,000 Carolinians, of which more than 200 are international students. USC is also regarded as one of the most prominent universities in the country. It currently has 12 Centers of Development (COD) and 8 Centers of Excellence (COE) as recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). CHED also recognizes USC with Full Autonomous status since 2001. The Supreme Court of the Philippines Legal Education Board conferred to USC School of Law and Governance an Excellence Award for being the top 4 performing law school in the Bar exams from 2013 to 2017. It also has an (ISO) 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System for Institutional and Student Support Services as of September 2017
