The Technological University of the Philippines is a coeducational state university located in Manila, Philippines. It is the flagship of technology education in the Philippines.
The Technological University of the Philippines was first established in 1901 as the Manila Trade School (MTS). The institution then was solely built for the instruction of the Filipinos on useful trades through the United States Philippine Commission. MTS was renamed as the Philippine School of Arts and Trades (PSAT) in 1910 and started to offer intermediate grade courses. Between 1915 and 1951, PSAT was authorized to offer a secondary level of curriculum and was then granted to offer a four-year degree. In 1959, PSAT then became the Philippine College of Arts and Trades and became well-known throughout the country. Nineteen years later, PCAT was exalted and changed to what is known now as the Technological University of the Philippines. Now, TUP is composed of four campuses located in Manila, Cavite, Taguig, and the Visayas.
The Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) provides higher and advanced vocational, technical, industrial, technological, and professional education. It is the university’s goal to provide training in industries and technology, and in practical arts leading to certificates, diplomas, and degrees. It also delivers progressive leadership in applied research, developmental studies in technical, industrial, and technological fields, and production using indigenous materials; efficient technology transfer in the countryside; and assist in the development of small-and-medium scale industries in identified growth centers.
