The University of the Visayas – Gullas College of Medicine (UVGCM) is a private institution that is part of the University of the Visayas (UV) system. UV wanted to extend its educational services to produce more healthcare professionals in the country; thus, in 1977 the UV Gullas College of Medicine was established in Cebu. The school was constructed as recognition to Don Vicente Gullas and Doña Josefina Rivera Gullas, the couple who founded UV (formerly Visayan Institute) in 1919.
Notable about the college are its international relations. Its Doctor of Medicine (MD) and/or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program are recognized by the Medical Council of India, World Health Organization, International Media Education Directory, US Education Department, and General Council of Medicine of Great Britain. UVGCM caters to a large population of foreign students, who come from countries like Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, Nepal, Nigeria, and the United States. For interested Indian students, the university is also affiliated with the Transworld Educare Pvt. Ltd. Additionally, it has an admissions office at Chennai, Tamilnadu, India.
