The Technological University of the Philippines was first established in 1901 as the Manila Trade School (MTS). The institution then was solely built for the instruction of the Filipinos on useful trades through the United States Philippine Commission. MTS was renamed as the Philippine School of Arts and Trades (PSAT) in 1910 and started to offer intermediate grade courses. Between 1915 and 1951, PSAT was authorized to offer a secondary level of curriculum and was then granted to offer a four-year degree. In 1959, PSAT then became the Philippine College of Arts and Trades and became well-known throughout the country. Nineteen years later, PCAT was exalted and changed to what is known now as the Technological University of the Philippines.
