About this course
The Master in Social Services and Development Program is one of ASI’s graduate programs that amplify the Vision, Mission, and Goals of the Institute. This graduate program is designed for persons who are presently or expect to be engaged in the social services, human and social development processes. Such engagements can be in the context of developing countries or other kinds of poverty being experienced in diverse social realities. The program will weave together Catholic and other Christian social teachings indigenous and inter-faith spirituality Filipino and other Asian values. This will be a program of co-learners as faculty, students, cooperating agencies and organizations, as well as partner communities implement it. It is a program that seeks student participants who would be maturing adults and who would find challenge in significant opportunities for self-learning and other self-initiatives for growth. It is responsive to the participants’ need for a program the essential task of which they can also do at their own time and where they are presently possibly engaged. The students also have a choice between Program Plan A (with thesis writing) and Program Plan B (with thesis writing equivalent. Students of the program will come from various Catholic and other Christian churches, Non-government Organizations, National and Local Government Units, Social Services and Social Development organizations / entities.

Graduate Admission Requirements:Filipino Student Applicants A. Doctoral Program The Program is open to holders of a Master's degree or it's equivalent from a university or college of recognized standing, with at least five years experience in development work or employment in a responsible position in an educational institute or a development agency. The applicant must submit the following documents: 1. Application letter addressed to the chairperson of the Admissions Committee 2. Transcript of records of Masteral Degree 3. Personal History Data 4. Passport-size Photograph 5. Letter of endorsement from employer (s) and/or previous professor (s). B. Graduate Program 1. For all graduate programs, the appropriate undergraduate degree 2. At least 2-3 years experience in human and social development 3. Leadership potential 4. Capacity for independent study 5. Must undergo an interview with the Section Head 6. Must pass the entrance examination 7. Documents to be submitted: • Formal letter of application • Two copies ASI Form No. 6 (Application Form) • Official transcript of record: Original Copy with Special Order (S.O.) • Honorable dismissal from the last school attended • Two letters of recommendation from the agency or organization the applicant is connected with • Autobiography • 2 passport-size ID picture C. Bachelor of Science in Social Work (Specialized Course) 1. Completion of a 4-year degree course 2. Documents to be submitted: same requirements as those of the graduate program 3. Must pass the entrance examination D. Foreign Student Applicants 1. Same as those for Filipino applicants in the graduate and specialized BSSW course. 2. Documents to be submitted for the issuance of a student visa (9f): • Notice of Acceptance (NOA) from the school containing a clear impression of the school's official seal, addressed to: - Student - The Director, Visa Division-Office of Consular Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs • Six (6) copies of the 1998 Revised Original Personal History Statement (PHS), duly accomplished and signed by the applicant in English and in national alphabet, accompanied by personal seal, if any, original left and right hand prints on PHS and original photos. • Transcript of records/Scholastic records duly authenticated by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in the applicant's country of origin or legal residence. "SEEN and NOTED" stamp is not acceptable • A notarized Affidavit of Support and proof of adequate financial support to cover expenses for student's accommodation and subsistence, school dues and other incidental expenses • Photocopy of Passport pages where name, photo, birth date and birthplace appear. In addition to the documents submitted to the DFA, the student shall submit the following requirements to the Consular Officer at the Philippine Foreign Service Post upon notice of interview : - ORIGINAL copy of the school’s Notice of Acceptance (NOA) containing a clear impression of the school's dry seal, addressed to the student - Police Clearance issued by the national police authorities in the student's country of origin or legal residence, authenticated by the Philippine Foreign Service Post having consular jurisdiction over the place and - Medical Health Certificate issued by an authorized physician including standard-size chest x-ray. Upon arrival in the Philippines, a foreign student with a student visa (9f) marked on his/her passport is advised to secure his/her Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) and Certificate of Residence for Temporary Students (CRTS) at the Bureau of Immigration (BI), Intramuros, Manila.

The Asian Social Institute (ASI) is a graduate school and research institution in Manila, Philippines. It is one of the few graduate institutes specializing in economics, sociology, social work and social services and development in the country.
The Asian Social Institute (ASI) was founded in June 1962 by Dr. Rev. Francis Senden, cicm, a Dutch missionary priest— a philosopher, sociologist, and theologian. He arrived in the Philippines in 1956 and became a professor of Social Philosophy, Christian Social Teachings, Sociology, and Economics at San Carlos Seminary in Guadalupe, Makati City up to 1962.
